    APPLICATION INFORMATION

REQUIRED ORIENTATION SESSIONS

 

If you are interested in applying to the PISD ACP, please attend one of the following Orientation Sessions (attendance is required in order for application to be considered):

  • Aug. 1, 2012
  • Sept. 5, 2012
  • Oct. 1, 2012
  • Oct. 30, 2012
  • Nov. 13, 2012

Meeting Time: 6:30 – 8:00 pm

 

Meeting Location: PISD Administration Building, 1401 West Pecan Street, Pflugerville, TX 78660, 2nd floor, C&I Conference Room

 

 

TIMELINE

 

Successful PISD ACP participants will:

·       Attend required orientation session in fall (attendance required)

·       Submit application: November 1 - February 1

·       Obtain admission, submit Intent to Participate form and first fee installment by March 5

·       Attend evening and weekend classes and two day-long field experiences, March – May

·       Participate in full-day training and field experience activities, June – July

·       Obtain a bilingual elementary teaching position in PISD, May – June

·       Apply for and attain a probationary teaching certificate, August

·       Complete 180-day internship and work as a PISD teacher of record, August - June

·       Attend after-school and weekend classes, September – February of internship year

·       Take the state certification examinations in spring of internship year

·       Successful participants who complete all program requirements, testing requirements, and campus requirements, shall obtain a standard teaching certificate in Elementary Bilingual Education in the state of Texas at the end of the internship

 

ADMISSION CRITERIA (for specific information, see HANDBOOK)

 
  • Completed Application for Admission (including 3 professional recommendations)
  • Hold a conferred Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning (http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/) or comparable degree from a non-US university with a minimum grade point average of a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, or at least a 2.5 on the last 60 semester credit hours (with specific content area hour requirements, see Candidate Handbook)
  • A minimum score on the THEA of 230 in reading, 230 in mathematics, and 220 in writing
  • A minimum score of 240 on the TExES Generalist, EC – 6, test #191
  • If applying for the bilingual Vietnamese program, a minimum score of Intermediate High on both the Oral Proficiency Interview (OLI) and the Writing Proficiency Test (WPT) on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) in Vietnamese
  • If Bachelor’s degree was earned in a language other than English, a minimum score of 26 on the speaking section of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL IBT)
  • Complete a minimum of 6 hours of classroom observation in PISD, and complete, sign, and submit the PISD ACP Pre-Admission Classroom Observation Form for each observation conducted 

    ·       Interview, conducted in English

·       Demonstrated proficiency in speaking and writing the Spanish language (Bilingual Spanish applicants only)

 

COST

 

·       Application fee: $50

·       Tuition/program fee: $2,000

·       Program Fee Payment Schedule:

    • Three payments of $200 each (due March 5, April 16, May 28)
    • Remaining $1,400 in tuition/program fees directly withdrawn through PISD payroll during first seven months of paid internship at $200/month

SUPPORT for PARTICIPANTS

 

·       Ongoing support provided by program director and program coordinator through the duration of the program (March - May)

·       Ongoing support of a paid campus mentor teacher throughout the teaching internship portion of the program (August - May)

·       Alignment of all professional development and training sessions with the PISD Framework of Instruction, Curriculum Bundles, and District Calendar
