Dear MES parents,
Our school would like to help the many victims of Hurricane Harvey, specifically Rockport Elementary School, by holding dress up days next week and charging $1 a day for any students that want to participate. You are welcome to send $1 each day your child chooses to dress up, or send $5 on Monday for the whole week. Any other donations will happily be accepted.
With the money raised, we will be buying gift cards for an elementary school on the coast to help get them back on their feet. The generous donations from around the country are overwhelming some of the hardest hit areas, so we thought a monetary donation would be the most helpful at this time. All proceeds will go directly to a school in need.
Dress up days for the week of September 11-15.
Monday – wear sunglasses
Tuesday – wear mismatched clothes
Wednesday – wear hat/headwear day (hats, scarves, headbands, etc)
Thursday – crazy hair day
Friday – crazy sock day
Murchison has such a caring community and is capable of helping out in a big way. Thanks for considering donating to this worthy cause!
The Staff of Murchison Elementary

All 1st - 5th Grade Mustangs have been invited to attend a "Community Pep Rally" at Hendrickson Hawk Stadium Friday morning beginning at 9:00. Our future Hawks will begin the walk over around 8:30 and return by 10:00. We invite everyone to wear blue for the festivities! #GoHawks
If you are new to the area, please be aware that dove hunting season begins Friday, September 1st, as well. Many PfISD campuses, including Murchison, are within close proximity to open hunting fields. Due to nearby hunting, it is not uncommon for us to hear the gunshots. Please do not be alarmed as this is a common occurrence.
Lastly, the Aramark calendar marks next Friday as Grandparent's Day. Murchison students will celebrate Grandparent's Day on Thursday, September 28th. More information about this event will be provided as it approaches.
Have a great afternoon!

Even though we got a late start to the day, it was a fabulous one! The delayed start definitely made the day go by quickly.
It was great to see all of our returning students and get to meet so many new faces. It is always great to get the new year started with our kids ~ they certainly add a level of excitement and fun. We are thankful that the weather was so beautiful today and did not add rain to the already increased flow of traffic.
Library Pick-Up: (Notice, this is a change from previous years)
In preparation for this school year, we discussed with groups of stakeholders on how to improve the safety of our students regarding traffic. Due to the difficulty to find safe and legal parking options during dismissal, we will no longer be offering “Library Pick-Up” as a dismissal option. Library Pick-Up consisted of families parking, entering the exterior door to the Library to meet their students and then exiting that door again. To assist with the safety of our youngest Mustangs, we will offer this service for our Pre-K and Kindergarten students (and their older siblings) for the first month of school. All other students will need to be car riders, biker/walkers or day care students.
Please communicate with your Mustang(s) if you would like for them to be car riders or Biker/Walkers. Many parents still chose to park at HHS and walk down the hill to pick up their children outside near the small playground. It is a very similar process but our families are readily available if there is an emergency an a need to quickly move their vehicles. Those that chose this dismissal plan were in and out with little delay.
The beginning of the year always takes a while to get the car rider process rolling. This process will run much more smoothly in the coming days and weeks as students become more comfortable with the process and parents are not waiting for us to create a car tag for them. Please have your car rider tags posted somewhere in the windshield so that are visible to our car callers.
Thank you for your patience as we all get back into the swing of things and everyone settles into a routine.
This process may be shortened after the first month of school as students become more comfortable with the process.
2:43 p.m. Dismissal for Library Pick-Up – Pre-K/Kinder
2:45 p.m. Dismissal for Car Riders – Pre-K/Kinder
2:46 p.m. Dismissal for Car Riders – 1st, 2nd

2:51 p.m. Dismissal for 3rd, 4th, 5th walkers/bikers, day care & EDP (Teacher Escort)
2:53 p.m. Dismissal for 1st& 2nd walkers/bikers, day care & EDP (Teacher Escort)

Happy Summer Mustangs!
We hope that everyone is off to a great summer and is remembering to read in between other fun activities. To help prevent regression over the summer, I challenge our students to read 100 minutes or more a week and try to limit access to technology to a maximum of an hour a day. We hope our student can have fun, enjoy being a kid, put down the technology and socialize this summer!
STAAR score for the 3-5th-grade STAAR will soon be made available for individual students and can be found by logging into the TEA student portal.
To access the TEA Student Portal, parents will need to find their student’s unique access code. This unique code may be found on the Confidential Student Report if your student has taken a STAAR test previously. If this is not the case, you soon should be able to obtain your student’s unique access by logging into the FOCUS Parent Portal. It should be marked on the bottom left side of the page as Texas Assessment Data Portal. If it is not yet posted, please check in later this week.
