Parent Conferences:  This time of year is the optimal time to schedule a parent-teacher conference with your child’s teacher.  Classroom teachers will share the beginning of year data with parents as well as how they plan to respond to each student’s needs through effective instructional practices.  Conferences also provide the opportunity for teachers to answer parent questions and build a strong partnership between home and school. Be sure to sign up for a conference with your child’s teacher this month!

Arctic Book Fair:  Rowe Lane’s November “Arctic” Book Fair is fast approaching and we need a lot of support! If you are interested in having a ton of fun while helping with the RLES Arctic Book Fair, this is a great opportunity for you!  Here is a link to sign up today. This event is happening the week of November 11-15. Thank you for your help! www.TinyURL.com/RLESFALL2019

Flu Shot Clinic:  Our flu shot clinic for students will be later than in previous years, and this year the CDC is recommending getting a flu shot by the end of October.  Free flu shots through PFISD will not be available until December. Therefore, being proactive and getting a flu shot earlier for your student may be the best option for your family. Rowe Lane is scheduled to have the student flu shot clinic on December 6th.

Rowe Lane launched the 10th year of our Enrichment season on Friday! Students were highly engaged in their self-selected enrichment learning. We are grateful for our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Rolater, for coordinating Enrichment classes, community partnerships, and parent volunteers. Rowe Lane staff’s preparation set our first sessions up for success, well done! Parents, please help your child arrive to school before 7:35 a.m. on Fridays, as participation in enrichment opportunities is dependent upon students arriving to school on time.

We also had an incredible turn out for our 3rd-5th grade Glow Dance! Thank you to our PTO for dedicating your time and energy to create such a fun experience for our students.

Find out what your child will be learning in Art, Music, and P.E. for the month of October below.

    Special Areas Updates:

Art: As we step into fall, students will continue to explore and expand their art knowledge through various mediums. Kinder will continue exploring line, shape and color while creating line monsters. 1st grade will focus on literature in art through their Pete the Cat collages, while 2nd grade learns about contemporary artist Iris Scott and her finger painting masterpieces. 3rd graders will explore art through science integration creating planets. 4th graders will envision themselves as astronauts as we discuss Neil Armstrong and Apollo 11’s moon landing. 5th graders will be exploring value, color mixing and creating implied texture with their blue herons. Remember, if you are available and would like to volunteer to help with the various needs of the art room, please sign up via the link provided: http://bit.ly/30IK5tX  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Music: My Planet, Your Planet  performance will take place Thursday, October 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. This is a celebration of our planet and the importance of taking care of our precious resources. Third grade will present and show how we can all play a role in managing our use of all resources. As we move closer to November, fourth grade will be starting on their program United We Stand.  This will be our school’s opportunity to celebrate and honor our veterans and service members. This celebration will take place Monday, November 11, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. If you have family and friends who are veterans, please share our performance date and times with them and invite them to join us.

PE: We have a busy October planned in PE! To kick it off, we will be having our annual Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 2nd. We will be meeting in the parking lot of the Blackhawk basketball courts at the corner of Kennemer & Speidel to walk to school @7:00 AM. This is an excellent opportunity to join our community together, while educating children and families about the benefits of walking. Please join some of the Rowe Lane staff, the Sheriff’s Department, HHS students from various organizations and the Kelly Lane DrumLine as we take steps towards a healthier life.

October is also Fire Safety Month and we will be learning about fire prevention, preparedness and safety in PE. Your students will likely be coming home with questions about what to do in the event of a fire in your home. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss fire safety with your family. The safety of our students is our No. 1 priority!

Campus Calendar Dates:  September 30th-October 4th

Tuesday, 10/01: School Pictures, PTO Meeting 5-6 p.m.

As we head into the fall season, we have much to celebrate at Rowe Lane Elementary!  Thank you to our PTO and Kindergarten & Fifth grade parents for providing an amazing Picnic Lunch for our staff last week.  I would also like to recognize our teachers for supporting the social emotional growth of all students by facilitating weekly community building circles in the classroom.  Classroom circles have already paved the way for students to have a voice in the classroom and to build positive relationships with their peers & teachers! Another opportunity to celebrate Rowe Lane’s accomplishments is our Public Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, September 25th 5:30 p.m. in the library. During the Public Meeting, RLES accountability and performance data will be shared, as well as our Campus Improvement Plan.

    Rowe Lane Attendance Procedures:

    Absences and Attendance
Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his or her education – to benefit from teacher-led and school activities, to build on the previous day’s learning and to grow as an individual.  Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of the instructional materials; therefore, the parent should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences. Student absent documentation must be received within 3 days of the student absence.  Please email your child’s teacher and campus Registrar, Megan Dubouzet, with documentation.  Paper copies will be accepted in the front office, however parent phone calls are not considered proper attendance documentation.

    Signing Your Student Out
If your student needs to leave campus after the school day has officially started, you will need to come in to the front office to check him/her out.  Please be prepared to show your ID for your student’s safety. If you send a friend or family member to pick up your student, the person must be on the student’s emergency contact list.  You can contact our Registrar, Megan Dubouzet (Megan.Dubouzet@pfisd.net) to have the person added.  This email must come from the email address we have on file for your student and include the following information – student’s first and last name, birthdate of student,  the person’s name to be added and a contact phone number. Please fill out the student sign in/out log located in the front office. This information will include your student’s name, your signature, time out and reason.  If your student returns to campus the same day, please sign in on the same line that you signed him/ her out.  Students signed out before 9:30 a.m. will incur an absence for the day.  Please keep in mind that when you sign your student out, this does not qualify as a parent note.

    Skyward Family Access
If you feel your student has received an absence that is a mistake, please contact your student’s teacher.  The teacher will then contact the Registrar with a correction or explain why the student received the absence.  This request must be made within 1 week of the absence that you are inquiring about. If you are not connected to Skyward Family Access, it is highly recommended that you request parent access.  To check on your status for access, please contact Megan Dubouzet, Rowe Lane Registrar Megan.Dubouzet@pfisd.net
