    THURSDAY-STUDENT PICTURE DAY:

All students will have their individual pictures taken on Thursday.  You can purchase these pics in advance, and re-takes will be November 9th.

    MONEY :

Please have your students take all money for school purposes to their classroom teacher.  This includes money for the cafeteria.  Teachers provide a lunch count daily and can ensure the money is issued accordingly.  This keeps the cafeteria line moving efficiently in the mornings and during lunch.

    Leader In Me Brag Tags:

WES and WPS are in the process of becoming Leader In Me Schools.  This is an exciting opportunity to develop Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective Children in each of our staff and students.  We are implementing “Brag Tags” as one way for our children to showcase their accomplishments toward these 7 habits.  This month our habit is “Be Proactive”.  Students wear their “Brag Tags” on Friday, and are all working toward being caught practicing the learned habit and earning their tag.  I will share a more in depth communication about what our students and staff will be working on this year.

DISMISSAL: I will also send a separate communication home

We have started our process of handing out Parent Pick Up Cards that have the Teacher Name, Grade, place for you to write in your Student’s Name, and are color coded for ease in connecting you with your students and as an extra layer of safety.   We are happy to provide you with as many cards as you need.  You can give a set to others that regularly pick up  your children, or to put into two different vehicles so you won’t have to remember the cards daily. These will also be made available at Open House.

We will be stationed at dismissal with students until 3:00.  Any student that has not been picked up by 3:00 will be brought inside until parents arrived and sign out the student.

There are a couple of safety rules to keep in mind for student safety: Please do not park in the car lane, as we need to keep that traffic moving and there are no left turns onto Picadilly during arrival or dismissal.

    WES OPEN HOUSE SUCCESS:

Thank you for coming out last Tuesday and visiting your child’s classroom, getting to know their routines and previewing what they will be learning this year.  We had a great turn out, we hope up left feeling great after some one on one time with the teachers.

    WINDERMERE PTO MEETING, TUESDAY 5:30-6:00:

Please join us for the PTO meeting hosted at WPS before Open House on Tuesday from 5:30-6:00.  There are so many opportunities available in the PTO to help make this the best school year yet!

    WES OPEN HOUSE, TUESDAY 6:00-7:30:

Please join us and spend some time in your child’s classroom getting to know their routines and what they will be learning this year.  This is a chance to hear from your child’s teacher, and ask any clarifying questions that you might have.  This is a come and go event, and you can stay as long or as little as you need to feel comfortable about this school year! I can’t wait to see you!

    DOT DAY FRIDAY-WEAR DOTS:

Please feel free to dress your child in dots in any form (socks, shirt, pants, etc.) on Friday, September, 15th, as WES celebrates International Dot day.

The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.

Happy First Week!  Attached is some brief information to support the fliers and information coming home in other formats. Please reach out if you have any questions, or concerns that can make this the best year yet!

    ARRIVAL:

Doors open at 7:10 a.m. daily for students.  Breakfast is free daily to all students.

Morning Convocation (Assembly) begins in the gym at 7:30 daily.  Students arriving after the 7:40 a.m. tardy bell will still have access to a sack breakfast they can take to their classroom, as to not miss instructional time.

We appreciate you making every attempt to have your students at WES daily, and on time.

    DISMISSAL:

ASCEND will be dismissed @ 2:35 daily.

All other grade levels will begin dismissing @ 2:40 daily.

    LABOR DAY HOLIDAY SEPT 4th:

September 4th, all staff and students will be off for the Labor Day Holiday.  Classes will resume on Tuesday, September 5th.

    GRANDPARENT’S DAY LUNCHEON Sept 8th:

We celebrate Grandparents’ Day at Windermere Elementary School on Friday, September 8th with an invitation for Grandparents to visit their grandchild during the student’s regularly scheduled lunch time.  A flyer is being sent home today in Tuesday folders, and again next week.  Grandparents are welcome to bring a lunch or purchase a lunch through our cafeteria. A reminder that adults are not allowed to eat in the school cafeteria, but we will have special seating available in the foyer for special visitors to enjoy this exciting time!  WPS will be celebrating with a lunch opportunity on Monday. Results are typically available in the TEA “Student Portal” within a few days of the date the reports are provided to districts. Using a Unique Access Code and the student’s date of birth, parents can access complete assessment history once scores are posted.

Fifth-grade retest results should be in this week. Parents will be notified of results upon receipt of scores as a campus and GPC meetings scheduled as necessary.
