    Hello Colts!

The Cele Performing Arts program is in full swing! The kids are working hard preparing for upcoming events and competitions. The Perspiring Arts are at it as well! Our Colts know that we can do very little about how experienced or how athletic, or how “gifted” the opponents may be. More importantly, we know that we can out-work our opponents; both in practice and in competitions. Our kids simply work harder. They are great kids and they have tremendous GRIT!

    So PROUD!!!

    Picture Day!

Picture day is coming. The students received information envelopes yesterday. Picture Day is Tuesday, October 3rd. Even if you are not planning to purchase the pictures, the student will want to look good for the yearbook!

    Literacy Night

Cele Middle School is preparing for Literacy Night on October 25th. We will have numerous activities for students and parents. Please plan to join us on Wednesday, October 25th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.

    Alert Reporting System

Pflugerville Independent School District is pleased to introduce a new communications tool called Anonymous Alerts. Students or parents can submit reports such as bullying, cyberbullying, depression, dating violence, drug or alcohol use, threats against the school, weapons on campus and more.

All communication is encrypted and totally anonymous. To use this revolutionary new system, students, parents or other school personnel can simply visit the PfISD website and click on the Quick Links section of the homepage and choose “Anonymous Alerts,” or download the Alerts Anonymous mobile app in the App Store. Monster Bash and Haunt-cert

The Cele PTO is hosting our annual Monster Bash on October 27th in conjunction with the Cele Colt Band Haunt-cert! We’ve worked hard to minimize time conflicts for the Cele Community; both Weiss and Hendrickson have no football that evening. There will be tremendous fun for the entire family! You won’t want to miss out on the Haunted House that our Theatre Arts Department is creating!

    Mornings on Cele Road

The good news is that the Pflugerville ISD Police and the Travis County Sheriff’s Department are monitoring the speed of cars on Cele Road in the mornings. The bad news is that some of our folks are getting speeding tickets in the mornings. This is a good time for us to remember to slow down and be careful.

On that note, let’s please stay in line once we’re in line in the driveway. We’ve had a few near misses with head-on collisions. I certainly understand that we’re all in a hurry but we can never afford to be careless. The students, families and staff are all a bit more safe when we maintain our patience. Thank you in advance.

    Flu Shot Clinic

Cele Middle School is hosting a flu shot clinic on October 5th. A note with details went home last week with the Interim Progress Report. Please check with your child.

    Cele Athletics Events

The Cele Colts are doing well in both Volleyball and Football. The kids and their Coaches are working very hard to get a little better every day.

We had a few students conduct themselves in an inappropriate manner last week at the football games. Please accept my apologies. We feel that this problem has been corrected and will not occur again. We did not experience any of these problems at the games this week. Our students know that they are only allowed to attend the games if they will agree to be respectful and not distract the parents of the participants. We’ll do better; I assure you.

    Destination Imagination

Cele students have been incredibly successful in Destination Imagination in the past and we anticipate continued success. Please see the attached note regarding DI and the Letter of Interest Deadline on Monday, October 2nd. More information is available on the Cele website. Every Student A Little Smarter, Every Day

    Students Riding A Friend’s Bus

One new regulation that went into effect last year is that students are only permitted to ride their own bus. Students may not bring a note to ride another student’s bus home after school. We were informed of this rule last year so it is not something new. We have shared this information with the students.

    Cele PTO

The Cele PTO met last week and there are some very special events in the works. The next big event is the Monster Bash on Friday, October 27th. There will be many games and activities. You won’t want to miss the Haunted House that our Theatre Arts students are planning. It will be a great time for the whole family.

Thank you for all you do to make Cele such a very special place!

    Sincerely,

    Brian Ernest

    Hello Colts!

Please take a few minutes to read a couple of quick announcements from the PTO:

We'd love to invite parents to be a part of our Cele PTO. We have an active membership and it is a great way to support the school and stay abreast of happenings at the school. There isn't as many activities and events to plan like there is in elementary school. We focus on ways to pamper the teachers, support the students with fun events like the Monster Bash and provide concessions for Volleyball, Basketball and Soccer. All of our fundraising efforts go towards grade-level needs and capital expenditures like the benches we purchased for outside the school. We are a very friendly group of parents and we'd love to get to know you!

Our PTO meeting has changed from this Wednesday to next Wednesday, Sept 20th due to Weiss' Open House. Our meeting will be at 7pm in the library. Please consider joining us and help support the students, staff and administration.

We need parents' to help work concessions at the Volleyball Games. Here is the sign up:

    http://www.signupgenius.com/go/409084eabaa2da7fa7-volleyball

The PTO has Spirit merchandise available to purchase online at https://squareup.com/store/cele-middle-pto. We have t-shirts, hoodies, water bottles and drawstring backpacks.

Save the date for the Monster Bash on Friday, October 27th from 6-9pm. It is an outdoor event tailored for middle school kids, complete with food, games, Haunted House, dunking booth, a huge rock wall, a Haunt-cert by the award-winning Cele band and a book fair. This year's haunted house is being creatively designed and produced by our very own Advanced Theater Group. Save the date!! Wristbands and tickets will go on sale at the beginning of October.

We are nearing the end of Week 2! We are no longer starting the school year. The first few days included several problems with the traffic and bus transportation. We feel like most of that is well on its way to being resolved! Now, we can get busy with our true mission which is making every child a little smarter every day. We feel like we are going to again be very successful with this.

    Buses

We have been working very closely with the good people at Durham School Services and have resolved a few of the bus issues. Some of this is based on routing and some of this is based on the growth in the Cele Community. We will be adding a bus to alleviate some of the worst crowding. Please see the attached note. We will continue to monitor and adjust as we continue to grow.

    Hurricane Harvey Relief

Cele Middle School has adopted Crosby Middle School in Hitchcock, Texas. They are just north of Galveston and have been hit very hard by the flooding. Among other things, we are selling “Texas Strong” t-shirts with the proceeds going to Crosby Middle School. If you would like to purchase one of these shirts, please contact our office by the end of the day Wednesday. We have attached a copy of our order form.

    Students Riding A Friend’s Bus

There have been a few changes in the rules. One new rule that went into effect last year is that students are only permitted to ride their own bus. Students may not bring a note to ride another student’s bus home after school. We were informed of this rule last year so it is not something new.

    Athletics

Our 7th and 8th grade Volleyball teams are in action tonight. The teams play two matches tonight, starting at 5 PM. The 7th Grade Lady Colts are at Weiss HS and the 8th Grade Lady Colts will play at Hendrickson HS. I hope to see you there!

The Football teams kick off the season with scrimmages next week. These scrimmages will look a lot like an organized practice against another team.

I want to thank our parents and fans in advance for representing Cele in the most positive light and conducting themselves as role models for our students. We have always had the most positive parents who cheered at the right time and accept that some parts of a game may not go in our favor. Thank you!!!

Of course, our Cheer Squad kicked off their season back in July by being named the Top Squad at the University of Texas Cheer Camp! Very proud!

    Open House

Thank you for joining us for Open House! Many of you indicated that you like the new format. We will likely use the same format next year, with some modifications to make things a little easier on the parents. Again, thank you to all the many parents who were able to join us.

Thank you for all you do to make Cele such a very special place!

    Sincerely,

    Brian Ernest

Please don’t forget about Cele’s Open House tonight

We have changed our Open House format and we think you will find it much more family-friendly.  No bells, no stress, no worries!  We’ll be here between 6:00 and 8:00 pm.  Drop by when you can and meet your child’s teachers.

The 6th Grade Teachers and all Elective Teachers will be in the Café

The 7th Grade Teachers will be in the Gym

The 8th Grade Teachers will be in the Meadow

We will have a brief faculty meeting at 8:00 PM to debrief about the event.  I will require the teachers to stop what they are doing at that time and come to the meeting.  That being the case, they would love to see you before then.  Please try to drop by and visit for a while.

On another note, Cele Middle School has adopted Crosby Middle School in Hitchcock, Texas.  They are but a few miles from Galveston and have been hit very hard by the flooding from Hurricane Harvey.  We will have more details tonight at Open House and will share that info later for anybody who is not able to attend.  The Bulldogs of Crosby Middle School, and their families, were hit hard and Cele will work hard to support them as they rebuild.

    Cele Traffic Update

Again today, I want to thank the parents who were so very patient and cautious in the Cele parking lot and on Cele Road.  Once the students are released from class at 3:35, the traffic flows rather swiftly.  Please know, we are not trying to be rude nor inconsiderate.  We are simply trying to move swiftly.

We did experience a problem this afternoon.  Actually, not a new problem but a much larger version of an old problem.  Several cars pulled out of line and drove up the wrong side of the driveway.  This puts them in the small parking lot, wanting their children to walk across the driveway.  When the kids walk across, it is dangerous and forces the traffic to slow down.  We ask that parents please wait in the line.  Once the kids come out, it will make everything go better for everyone.  Thank you!

Our buses were much closer to being on time this afternoon and we know that with a couple more days of practice, all should go well.

Remember, no school on Monday and Open House on Tuesday.  See you there!

Thank you for all you do to make Cele such a very special place.

The First Day is often a little tricky.  Late Start days are often very challenging.  Today, we did both!

Thank you for your patience in the parking lot and on Cele Road.  We made two mistakes that took a little time to resolve and I feel terrible about both.  More importantly, we moved many, many cars safely through our driveway and I am so thankful that our parents were both cautious and patient.  After the first day, we anticipate fewer parents dropping off and picking up kids.  This will help things flow much more smoothly.

With the new elementary school and the new high school opening, we can expect morning traffic to be challenging.  With the looming construction where Cele Rd. meets Hodde and Kelly, we know the traffic will only get worse.  Please continue to be very patient and allow plenty of extra time both before and after school.

Tomorrow should be a regular schedule day and we’ll get on with the business of making every child a little smarter every day.

Thank you for all you do to make Cele such a special place!

    Sincerely,

Such a special time of year!

School begins Monday morning at 8 AM.   Students who will be riding the bus will want to arrive at their bus stop a few minutes early.  Students who will be dropped off will want to get an early start because we fully expect extremely heavy traffic on Weiss Lane and Cele Road.  PATIENCE will be very valuable Monday morning.

If your child is riding the bus home, please make sure they know their bus number.  This is especially important for students who will be dropped off in the morning.  Route information can be found on the district website under the Parents tab.

When the students come in on Monday, we will send 6th Graders to the Café, 7th Graders to the Gym, and 8th Graders to the Stairway to Heaven.  We’ll have a large group of helpers to guide our newest Colts to their destination.  No stress, no worries!

    PTO & 6th Grade

Just a reminder, the PTO is hosting the 6th Grade Pool Party tomorrow night.  Please take a look at the attached note for details.  The Cele PTO is extremely supportive and helps us host numerous special events.

    Pool Party

    OPEN HOUSE

Please make arrangements to join us Tuesday, September 5th for our Open House.  The format will be more “family-friendly” this year.  The grade-level teachers will all be in a common area and parents can come meet them at their leisure.  This will allow parents to meet teachers in a much more relaxed (“no bell schedule” J) environment.  We’re pretty excited about the new format.

We are very busy preparing for another incredibly successful year at Cele.  Please know that everything we do is designed to help us with our mission: make every child a little bit smarter, every day.  I cannot wait to see the kids!

Thank you for all you do to make Cele such a very special place!

As you know, we are required to verify residency for all new 6th grade students.  I’ve attached the list of required documents.

    Please note:

If you are able to make your own copies in advance, bring the copies and the originals with you.  This will speed up the process dramatically and you will be able to bypass the long line at the copier.

    Good evening, Colts!

    Course Verification Pick Up

This Tuesday is Pflugerville ISD’s Course Verification Pick Up for middle school students.  For our 6th grade students, it will be during the 6th Grade Camp (8:30 to 11:00 AM).  For our 7th and 8th grade students, it is Tuesday afternoon from 4:30 to 7:00 PM.

    The tricky part is this…

For 6th grade students, we are required by state regulations to Prove Residency.   Details

For 7th grade students, we must have up to date shot records.

We have to take care of these items before we’re permitted to release the Course Verification.  Sorry, we’re truly not trying to be difficult.

Of course, many of you will opt to pass on Course Verification pick up and that is certainly fine too.  It will not cause your child one bit of trouble on the first day of school.

First Day of School-Monday, August 28th

As I’ve said “no stress, no worries”.

School starts at 8:00 (actually, 8:05 but everybody who aims for 8:05 will be late).

The students will be handed their schedule when they come into the building.

The 6th graders will meet in the Cafeteria

The 7th graders will be sent to the Gym

The 8th graders will meet on the Stairway to Heaven

After a brief meeting, they will go to their first class.  We will have many good people available to help them find their first class.

Students new to Cele (there will be MANY!) will receive orientation throughout the day so that they will easily fit in.  Again, “no stress, no worries”.

Students can bring all of their school supplies (see the website) or they can bring just a pen and paper for the first day.  Either will work.

We will make sure every student gets fed and gets to all the right classes.  No stress, no worries…

    Bus Routes

The bus routes are not yet posted and will not be available until after this week.  We’ll let you know when they are available.

Every student zoned to Cele Middle School has a bus route.  You do not need to register for a bus.

Students should get to the bus stop a few minutes early on the first day in case the bus is ahead of schedule.

We will not be surprised if the bus runs a few minutes behind the first few days.

    Open House

We will have an open-house on Tuesday, September 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  The format will be far more flexible than in the past.  Please try to drop by, even if for just a little while.

We’re preparing for a terrific school year and cannot wait to see your children walking the halls of Cele!

Thank you for all you do to make Cele such a very special place!

    Brian Ernest
