Happy Fall DRES Families!  I hope you are enjoying this glorious day.

We are gearing up for the Fall Festival and look forward to spending a fun evening with you and your child.  I have attached information for you just in case it hasn’t made it home.  We are still needing parent volunteers, so if you are available, let your child’s teacher know or me and we will get you set up.  There will be games, jump houses, trunk-or-treat, music, food, haunted houses, silent-auction, Kendra Scott and other vendors, as well.

Before Fall Fest arrives, we have a couple of other things for you to mark on your calendar:

    ·      This Friday is Fitness Friday with Dads from 7-7:30am.  Come on out!

    ·      Next Wednesday is early release.  Teachers will be holding parent conferences that afternoon.  If you don’t have one scheduled, reach out to your child’s teacher.  They have much to share.

    ·      If you have questions about the GT nomination process, our GT specialist will be available on conference day, October 25, from 1-4pm.

    ·      As a general reminder…homework lab is open daily from 7:10-7:40, so if your child needs a little homework help, send him/her to the first grade hallway.  Staff members will be there waiting to assist.

    ·      School wide pumpkin character contest is going on.  Help your child decorate a pumpkin as his/her favorite book character.

    ·      Chef contest, hosted by Aramark, also in progress.  Help your child create an original recipe.  Click to view flyer.

Hawk Cheerleader Camp is Saturday, Oct. 28. Sign up with this form.

    ·      Last, but not least, please be sure that you are helping us keep our students safe in the parking lot.  The afternoons are very smooth, but we are still working on the mornings. We all need to be courteous drivers, waiting our turn for drop-off.  Additionally, drop-off should only take place in the lane, next to the building.  The outside lane is for exiting. This is a very important part of keeping our students safe.

Thanks so much for all you do, but most of all, thanks for sharing your child with us!

  • STAAR Testing

Posted by Marcial Guajardo at 3/27/2017

Just a reminder about our first round of STAAR testing: Fourth- and fifth-graders will be engaged in the highly rigorous STAAR assessment tomorrow and Wednesday. In order to create a controlled testing environment, we will have a closed campus on those days. A closed campus simply means that we will not have parent and/or other outside visitors on campus during testing hours.

Testing begins at 8 a.m. and will go through the lunch hour. If testing students are absent, we could potentially have make-up testing later in the week, so if you’d like to make arrangements to have lunch with your child, please wait until next week, to be safe.

If you are the parent of a fourth- or fifth-grade student, please be sure that he/she gets a good night’s rest. We will have a warm breakfast ready in the morning if your child chooses to join us for breakfast. Additionally, if your child would like to bring a water bottle and healthy snack, we do encourage that.

Thank you for supporting our students!

On another note, please see flyer attached. If your child is interested in joining the Pflugerville swim team, registration is happening now.

    Thanks so much!

Happy March! Spring is right around the corner. It is hard to believe that we only have one more week before spring break.

Attached you will find our March newsletter with upcoming dates.

Texas Students Rank High in Comparison of Top Performing Nations

Texas students beat Finland, England, Germany, France, and most other countries around the world when translating their scores on NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) to results on TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study), the same benchmark so often used by critics and reformers to demonstrate how far behind American students are from the rest of the world. Texas students rank 8th in the world in math and 11th in science. The National Center for Education Statistics linked the scale of NAEP to the scale of TIMSS so that states can reasonably compare the performance of their students with those in other countries.

  • School calendar input requested

Posted by Marcial Guajardo at 1/23/2017

    Hi Dearing Families,

We have had staff members across the district, heavily involved in working on the calendar for next year. We would love your input before moving forward.  Attached you will see a proposed draft.  Below there is a link that you can click on to give your feedback. Let your voice be heard. We appreciate your feedback!

    Proposed calendar

    Quick reminder:

This Thursday is our Academic night, formerly known as Science Night. There will be a heavy science influence with many fun science activities and projects displayed. We will also have some literacy activities, math activities, Barnes and Noble and Mathnasium on campus. The grade level with the most participation will  earn extra recess time and the class with the most participation will earn a visit from Mad Science, so come on out and have some fun!

    Thanks so much!
