Geography Showcase Pflugerville ISD hosted its 11th annual Geography Showcase on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Pflugerville High School.

Eighth-grade student Zachary Lucas of Park Crest Middle School captured first place overall at the event. Fifth-grade student Otto Freeland of Dearing Elementary and eighth-grader Elena Alvarado of Kelly Lane Middle School finished second and third overall, respectively.

Lucas was also presented the Outstanding Geography Achievement award. He was named PfISD Geography Showcase champion in each of his five years of eligibility, and served as campus champion at Brookhollow Elementary twice before claiming the campus champion title at Park Crest for three additional years.

The Geography Showcase celebrates geography education in grades 4-8. The contestants, all campus winners of the National Geographic Bee competition, answer questions about local, state, national and world geography.

Students will also take a qualifying test in hopes of participating in the state contest on March 29. Winners at the state level advance to the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C. in May.
