Parents asked to reinforce safety measures

Today near Murchison Elementary, two MES students reported that a man approached them as they walked to school and attempted to grab one of the students. Thankfully the students were unharmed and reported the incident to staff members immediately upon their arrival to school. The police were notified and are investigating the situation.

Student safety is PISD’s first priority. With spring just around the corner, more students will be walking to school and playing outside. Though this was an isolated incident near only a few of our campuses, PISD is asking parents from across the district to help remind students about steps they can take to stay safe.

Please take a moment to reinforce safety rules with your children. Encourage them to walk in groups and remind them to tell an adult if they notice anything suspicious. They should never accept a ride from a stranger, and should be cautious about talking with adults they don’t know.

If your children are old enough to be left at home alone, remind them not to open the door, and to refrain from telling somebody at the door or on the phone that they are home alone. Instead, they should say that their parents are busy and offer to take a message.

Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe, and for your continued support of Pflugerville ISD.
